CCACC Health Center will be hosting a free online workshop for caregivers of dementia patients from April 11th to May 16th. Registration is now open, and we encourage interested members of the community to sign up enthusiastically.

In the United States, over 6 million individuals aged 65 and older suffer from dementia. In the Montgomery County community, the number of dementia patients is on the rise. Statistics show that over 80% of dementia patients receive care at home. Among the caregivers for dementia patients, two-thirds are women, and one-quarter belong to the "sandwich generation," meaning they simultaneously care for dementia patients and children or teenagers under the age of 18.

Caring for dementia patients is no easy task. The behavioral challenges of patients constantly test the patience of caregivers. As the condition of the patient worsens, caregivers may be questioned, affecting their self-confidence. According to surveys, caregivers of dementia patients are also increasingly becoming a high-risk group for developing mental health issues.

CCACC Health Center has been paying close attention to families with dementia patients in the Montgomery County's Chinese community. In January of this year, a 6-week workshop series was conducted successfully, allowing participants to delve into the characteristics and needs of dementia patients, as well as know how to effectively address behavioral issues in patients.

Through participation in this course, attendees will be better equipped to handle the stress and challenges that may arise while caring for dementia patients.

Workshop Topics:

  1. Caregivers stress relief
  2. Dealing with difficult to care patient's behaviors
  3. Making decisions about treatment
  4. Communicating effectively with family, friends, and healthcare professionals
  5. Dealing with difficult emotions of caregiver and patient
  6. Planning for future needs
  7. Action planning and problem solving

Workshop Time:

  1. April 11th to May 16th 2024
  2. Thursday 3pm-5:30pm
  3. Total 6 classes, 2.5 hours per class
