About
CLAPS Chinese School was established to celebrate the diversity of the families and honor the heritage of children adopted from China by offering lessons in language and culture to them since 2003. Since then, CLAPS has evolved into a major program to providing Chinese language and culture classes to all families in the Metropolitan Washington DC area, regardless of Chinese-speaking or non-Chinese speaking, and regardless of where the children are from.

Mission
To foster the understanding of the Chinese language and culture for all families interested in Chinese language and Culture in the Metropolitan DC area.

Goals
●  Learn in a semi-immersion environment 
●  Learn words/phrases by repetition in class
●  Speak and understand Mandarin in cultural arts & crafts activities
●  Able to speak and answer simple questions
●  Able to carry on simple conversations
●  Understand the basic concept of Chinese language and cultue

Classes
Children language classes are set according to the student's age/grade and language proficiency. Classes are offered for students ages 5 and up for varying levels, including a Chinese Conversation class for Adults.

Class sizes are small and tailored to each students' needs. There are two semesters each year, Fall and Spring, in which 16 weeks of classes are offered. Classes meet for one and half hours each week on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

A minimum of 5 students must be signed up in order for a class to be held.

Children's Folk Dance Classes:
●  Introductory "Blossom" Class
●  Intermediate "Lotus" Class
●  Class times for each student will be arranged by the teacher

Chinese Festival Activities
Students and parents gather together to learn about and celebrate the Chinese heritage during festivals such as Mid-Autumn Festival, Lunar New Year Festival, etc.

Culture Series for Adults 
A topic-oriented lectures are presented in English by invited speakers, giving a glimpse of Chinese perspectives on life, philosophy and the cultural differences between China and the West.
