Looking back over the past year, Mr. Phil Zen, Deputy Director of CCACC Sports, has hosted multiple pickleball activities within the community, fostering greater community engagement and promoting an active, healthy lifestyle. To further encourage CCACC Evergreen Club members to embrace healthy aging, and with the full support of Ms. Chiao-Chiao Liu, Director of CCACC Community Services, the team formally began organizing an Evergreen Club pickleball group.

Following careful planning and dedicated efforts, the CCACC Evergreen Club "Active Aging" Pickleball Team was officially established on December 28, 2025, at CCACC Sports. Mr. Steve Liu serves as both Head Coach and Group Leader, with Ms. Lisa Peng as Deputy Group Leader.

The team currently has over 50 members, ranging in age from 60 to 85. Many members have been active in tennis, table tennis, or badminton over the past two decades and possess a solid athletic foundation. Since its establishment, the team has held weekly training sessions, each lasting two hours, utilizing two tennis courts at CCACC Sports.

Due to strong interest, the team is currently at full capacity and not accepting new members at this time. Those interested in joining are encouraged to follow updates from CCACC Community Services and CCACC Sports. The team looks forward to future opportunities for the "Active Aging" team to engage with other members, exchange skills, and share the joy of sports together.

On the day of its establishment, the event attracted more than 50 members and family members, creating a lively and enthusiastic atmosphere. Activities followed the Dill Dinkers Open Play format, featuring men's doubles, women's doubles, and mixed doubles. Participants bonded through friendly competition and energetic interaction. The event lasted approximately four hours.

Reflecting on the training journey, many beginner members initially felt unfamiliar with the racket and footwork. Through consistent practice and dedication, they have since gained agility on the court and made remarkable progress in their skills. Within the warm and welcoming family of the "Active Aging" team, members have gained not only physical fitness but also valuable friendships.

In recent years, pickleball has experienced rapid growth in participation across the United States, drawing interest from people of all ages. The sport has also attracted attention and investment from celebrities and professional athletes, while its competitive events and organizational systems continue to expand. Its key characteristics include:

  1. Ease of Learning: Combining elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis, with relatively simple rules that are easy to pick up
  2. Social Engagement: Ideal for friends and families, promoting interaction and connection
  3. All-Ages Accessibility: Intensity can be adjusted to individual needs, making it suitable for all age groups
  4. Educational Promotion: Increasingly incorporated into school physical education programs

Overall, pickleball has evolved from an emerging sport into a mainstream athletic activity in the United States. Its rapid growth highlights its expanding influence within the sports community.

Some say retirement marks the beginning of life's second chapter. For members of the CCACC Evergreen Club "Active Aging" Pickleball Team, pickleball has truly allowed their retirement years to shine. May health and happiness continue to accompany every member on this journey. Here's to health, friendship, and a bright new 2026.
