On November 27, 2025, the powerful tropical cyclone Ditwah struck Sri Lanka, bringing strong winds and torrential rainfall that triggered severe flooding and landslides across multiple regions of the country. According to UN News, this disaster is the most severe and deadliest climate-related catastrophe Sri Lanka has experienced since the 2004 South Asian tsunami. The floods destroyed more than 6,000 homes, leaving countless families displaced and in urgent need of international assistance.
To help affected communities weather this crisis, the CCACC Health Center has partnered with the Sri Lankan American Society for Health to launch a donation drive, calling on compassionate community members to contribute essential supplies. Through this initiative, the organizers hope to deliver warmth, care, and tangible support to disaster-hit areas and assist residents in rebuilding their basic daily lives.
Items being collected include, but are not limited to:
· Summer clothing for adults and children
· Bedding, bed sheets, and towels
· Personal hygiene items (such as soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, sanitary pads, wet wipes, gloves, and face masks)
· Non-perishable food items (such as rice, noodles, sugar, canned fish, baby food, and ready-to-eat foods)
CCACC Health Center requests that all donated items be delivered to the clinic by January 16, 2026, at the following address:
9298 Gaither Road, Gaithersburg, MD 20877
For clothing donations, please ensure that all items are freshly washed, in good condition, and suitable for wear, so they can be of practical use to those in need.
CCACC Health Center has long been committed to public health and humanitarian causes. Through this collective community effort, the Center hopes to provide timely and meaningful assistance to flood victims in Sri Lanka, working together to share compassion, hope, and solidarity across borders.
