City of Gaithersburg Christmas & New Year's Holiday Closures and Recycling

In observance of the Christmas and New Year's holidays, most City of Gaithersburg facilities and offices will be closed on Thursday, December 25, 2025, and Thursday, January 1, 2026.

Gaithersburg Holiday Facility Schedule (alternate hours only noted if they differ from normal business hours):

Please note that the Gaithersburg Youth Centers will be closed December 24 through January 2 during MCPS Winter Break. 

Wednesday, December 24, 2025

  1. Activity Center at Bohrer Park, Arts Barn, Casey Community Center, Gaithersburg Community Museum, Kentlands Mansion, and Benjamin Gaither Center will be open until 4 p.m.
  2. Gaithersburg Youth Centers and Gaithersburg Aquatic Center are closed.

Thursday, December 25, 2025

  1. All City facilities are closed.
  2. The Winter Lights Festival is closed.
  3. No loose-leaf collection.
  4. The Administrative Offices of the Gaithersburg Police Station are closed. Police patrol will remain on duty. For emergencies, please call 911. For non-emergencies, please dial 301-279-8000 for dispatch.

Friday, December 26, 2025

  1. Gaithersburg Youth Centers are closed. 

Wednesday, December 31, 2025

  1.  Activity Center at Bohrer Park, Arts Barn, Casey Community Center, Gaithersburg Community Museum, Kentlands Mansion, and Benjamin Gaither Center will be open until 4 p.m.

Thursday, January 1, 2026

  1. All City facilities are closed.

Recycling and Bulk Pickup Collection

  1. The collection of recycled materials for residents whose regular recycling day is Thursday, December 25, 2025, will take place the FOLLOWING Saturday, December 27.
  2. The collection of recycled materials for residents whose regular recycling day is Thursday, January 1, 2026, will take place the FOLLOWING Saturday, January 3.
  3. Loose leaf collection will not take place on December 25.
  4. On-demand bulk pickup for residents whose regular recycling days are December 25 and January 1 will be unavailable. Appointments can be made for the following week by scheduling a collection online here, by emailing BulkPickUp@gaithersburgmd.gov, or by calling 301-258-6370.

 

Stay up to date on recycling and yard waste service changes by subscribing to notifications from the City's Recycle Coach app. 

Regular trash and garbage collection for City residents is handled by private contractors. Please contact your HOA or your private contractor regarding the holiday collection schedule for these materials.
