To help parents more effectively support their children's growth and gain inspiration from one another's experiences, CCACC Academy launched a new series titled  "Parent Experience Sharing Roundtable."

The first session was successfully held on September 28, 2025, hosted by Ms. Avery Wan, Academy Principal & Operating Director. The event featured Mr. Larry Lian as the keynote speaker. Larry, the father of two college students—one attending Harvard University and the other Cornell University—has accumulated a wealth of educational experience over the years. In this session, he sincerely shared his insights and personal stories—both successful practices and past mistakes—to offer valuable perspectives for young parents.

Recording Everyday Moments to Capture Growth

Larry encouraged parents to start documenting their children's daily moments from an early age—whether joyful, frustrating, or challenging.

  1. For emotional or difficult situations, parents can briefly note three things: what happened, how the child responded, and what changed afterward.
  2. These records not only help parents better understand their children’s emotions and behaviors but can also serve as genuine and vivid materials when applying for college in the future.

The Power of Parental Example and Parenting Styles

Larry shared that parenting styles generally fall into four categories, including:

  1. Controlling Parents: Rule-driven and discipline-oriented, focusing on results.
  2. Lighthouse Parents: Leading by example and guiding children through their own actions.

Larry explained that his own transformation—from a "controlling" parent to a "lighthouse" parent—came from replacing lecturing with demonstrating through action.
He emphasized that when parents sincerely share their life experiences and emotions—both the successes and the failures—their authenticity has far greater impact than instructions alone, truly embodying the power of role modeling.

Q&A and Practical Insights

During the Q&A session, Larry offered practical advice for common parenting challenges:

  1. When parenting approaches differ between parents: Take turns trying different methods to observe which best promotes positive responses in the child, then decide on a long-term strategy.
  2. Expressing love to children: Use handwritten cards, verbal encouragement, and daily interactions to help children recognize and process emotions, gradually fostering independence.
  3. Dealing with teenage rebellion: Younger children express independence through actions, while teenagers express it through words and thoughts. Once parents understand the essence of "rebellion," they should respond with unconditional love—a love not tied to grades or achievements, but consistent and enduring. Through both words and actions, parents can help children feel secure and supported even under academic and social pressure.

Positive Feedback and Future Plans

The roundtable received enthusiastic feedback from participating parents, who said that engaging in face-to-face dialogue with an experienced parent deepened their understanding of parenting philosophies and provided practical strategies they could apply immediately.

Looking ahead, CCACC Academy will continue hosting more "Parent Experience Sharing Roundtable" sessions to provide parents with an open platform for communication and mutual learning. The goal is to foster a positive and nurturing environment where every child can grow and thrive in love and support.
