CCACC Health Center will host a six-week "Diabetes Self-Management Program (DSMP)" starting on April 24. This course is specifically designed for individuals with diabetes and their families, aiming to provide comprehensive knowledge about diabetes and practical self-management skills. The goal is to help participants better control their blood sugar levels, prevent complications, and improve their quality of life.
With the changes in modern lifestyles, diabetes has become a global public health issue, increasingly affecting younger populations. High-calorie, high-sugar diets, prolonged sedentary behavior, and lack of exercise all increase the risk of developing diabetes. As a persistent chronic disease, if left uncontrolled, it can lead to serious complications such as cardiovascular disease, kidney damage, vision problems, and skin infections.
The course will feature two speakers: Dr. Ling Chin, MD, a volunteer physician at the CCACC Health Center, and Ms. Kate Lu, LCSW-C, the Director of CCACC Health Center. They will provide participants with essential knowledge about diabetes, including how to develop healthy meal plans and appropriate exercise routines to build and maintain strength and endurance. The speakers will also discuss how to collaborate more effectively with clinics and healthcare providers, and how to establish long-term, sustainable habits to manage symptoms and improve overall well-being. In addition, through interactive discussions, they will share practical experience and offer concrete, everyday tips to help participants and their families face the challenges of diabetes with greater confidence.
Facing the dangers of diabetes and its complications, taking preventive measures and effective self-management early on becomes particularly important. Adopting a healthy diet, engaging in regular exercise, maintaining a healthy weight, and ensuring psychological well-being can effectively reduce the risk of diabetes. Whether you have just been diagnosed with diabetes or have been managing it for years, we warmly invite you to join the CCACC Health Center's "Free Diabetes Self-Management Program." We hope this course can be a steadfast partner on your journey to health.
