The opening reception of 'Home Is Where the Heart Lies,'a solo exhibition by Mingming Cheung, originally scheduled for January 11, 2025, at CCACC Art Gallery, has been postponed due to weather conditions. The new date is Saturday, January 18, 2025, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. Art enthusiasts and all community members are invited to the exhibition opening.

An artist who immigrated from China in 1979 and is currently based in the Greater Washington DC area, Cheung will showcase over 60 works in this exhibition, primarily watercolor paintings created over the past decade. With rich colors, luminous light and shadow, and delicate, gentle brushstrokes exuding tranquility and serenity, Cheung is offering viewers a sense of joy and comfort. The still life and flora come alive under her meticulous brush, presenting a scene of peace and harmony. Her detailed depictions of various landscapes in the Greater Washington DC area evoke a sense of familiarity while offering delightful surprises, as if she is trying to invite viewers into the world that she defines as a 'Home [That] Is Where the Heart Lies.'

Cheung is a retired U.S. Army civilian. She graduated in 1964 with a BFA in Interior Design from Beijing's Central Academy of Arts and Crafts (now known as 'Academy of Arts and Design, Tsinghua University'). Fifteen years later in 1979, she immigrated to the United States. Firmly installed in the U.S., she attended the International Institute of Interior Design in Washington, D.C. and then became an interior design artist.

In 2010 she founded the Chinese Culture and Art League (CCAL), a nonprofit organization based in the DC area. CCAL is a calligraphy, painting and photography club. Cheung organized exhibition tours for this club. One of them was called Dragon on the Horizon that went to six museums and galleries in China where CCAL members showcased their works. Comprised of a diverse group, CCAL members came from Taiwan, Hong Kong, Mainland China, Canada and the U.S.

Despite having been fighting cancer for over 17 years, Cheung continued painting while teaching a watercolor class online. Her artistic works can be found in many European and Middle Eastern countries where she did murals, decorative paintings and even ceiling frescos. Her large murals decorate King Hussein's Royal Palace in Jordan, Saudi Arabia's Royal Palace and the mansions of wealthy businessmen in Saudi Arabia and Greece. Her paintings are also found in the Army's domestic and overseas soldier and officer clubs, indoor sports venues (in Korea, Japan and Germany). She did artistic works for the American Representative at the World Expo in Spain and her decorative paintings adorn the Vice President's residence at the National Observatory and the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington D.C. She served as the art director of the movie 'The Great Wall'and she did illustrations for the novels and textbooks of Zhang Hen Shui and other writers.

This upcoming solo exhibition 'Home Is Where the Heart Lies' is not only a recognition of Cheung's artistic achievements but also a feast for the eyes to art enthusiasts. We warmly welcome everyone to visit, exploring Cheung's artworld, experiencing the tranquility and beauty through her works, and immersing themselves in the boundless charm of art!
