The "Bonding Through Art" exhibition opened at the Chinese Culture and Community Service Center (CCACC) Art Gallery in Gaithersburg, Maryland on December 7th showcasing 50 Chinese ink paintings and calligraphy works created by three teachers, Wendy Yee, Elise Chang and Ling-Li Lin of the CCACC Evergreen Club Painting and Calligraphy Class.

Nearly 80 community members including the three artists' students and friends attended the opening reception last Saturday. CCACC Executive Director and Art Gallery Director Rita Lewi, Deputy E.D. Li-Fang Liu, Executive Secretary May Zhou, Community Services Center Director Chiao-chiao Liu and Evergreen Club Director Jia Liu were CCACC representatives at the event.

Director Lewi announced the opening of the exhibition at 2 pm, and asked the three artists to come on stage to introduce themselves.

Yee and Chang thanked CCACC for holding the exhibition; they emphasized that this show is meant to highlight Ling-Li Lin, formerly a student of theirs for ten years, now their coworker teaching the Flower-and-Bird Painting Class of the Evergreen Club program. "I am proud to see so many wonderful works Ling-Li has brought to this exhibition, thanks to her decade's commitment and diligence,"said Chang.

Audience noticed a TV set playing a loop video at the corner of the Gallery showing Lin's animated landscape paintings accompanied by tranquil Chinese music. Lin explained that it was her friend who created the animation in order to add a vivid, personal touch to the paintings. Lin expressed her sincere gratitude to the two teachers. She appreciated their inspiring teaching and the opportunity for her to become a teacher of the Evergreen Club's Painting and Calligraphy Class, and she is deeply honored to work with the two teachers to present the exhibition. She encouraged the students and visitors to join her class and learn together. "Perhaps in ten years, you will be able to hold your own art exhibition!" she said.

Following the remarks, Director Lewi encouraged everyone to view exhibits, having a dialogue with the three artists while enjoying the sumptuous refreshments. Many of the pastries were prepared by Lin and her students and friends.

The three-week exhibition will close on December 27. Anyone who loves traditional Chinese painting and calligraphy is most welcome to stop by and enjoy a feast for the eyes.
