WHO WE ARE
The Silver Spring Urban District is hiring several full- time Public Service Workers (Download PDF reader) to perform a variety of manual labor tasks to maintain the beautification of the Silver Spring Urban Business District.
The Silver Spring Urban District (SSUD) supports and enhances the County's Silver Spring commercial district as a vibrant, thriving, livable urban center by maintaining the streetscape and its investments. The Urban Districts provide additional public amenities such as plantings, seating, shelters, and works of art as well as promoting the commercial and residential interests of these areas which include cultural programming and community activities.

Public Service Workers are part of a team that are responsible for the maintenance, repair and beautification of the Silver Spring downtown district. A few of the ways you will make a difference in the community:

In this position, employees work outdoors in varying weather conditions. This position requires frequent periods of walking, standing, kneeling, and operation of trucks or work vehicles.
The individuals selected for this position will be considered an "Essential Employee". Essential employees must report to work during a period of general emergency or liberal leave.
Prior to appointment, selected applicants will have to complete a medical examination with a drug/alcohol screen and a background clearance.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience: None
Education: Ability to read and write in English and carry out simple written instructions.
Equivalency: None.
Physical Ability:
· Ability and willingness to perform work for prolonged periods in severe weather
· Ability to exert moderate physical effort for prolonged periods and heavy physical effort for limited periods
LICENSE: Possession and maintenance at all times of a valid Class "C" (or equivalent) driver's license.
Preferred Criteria, Interview Preferences
All Applicants will be reviewed by the Office of Human Resources (OHR) for minimum qualifications. Those applicants who meet minimum qualifications will be rated "Qualified", placed on the referred list, and may be considered for an interview. Employees meeting minimum qualifications of the same grade or higher will be placed on the Referred List as a "Transfer" candidate and may be considered for an interview.
