Gaithersburg, MD (March 20, 2020) The City of Gaithersburg has employed the services of the Novak Consulting Group to assist with the search for its next City Manager. City Manager Tony Tomasello will retire as of May 7, 2020. He joined the City as its first Economic Development Director in 1996, was promoted to the position of Assistant City Manager in 2001, became Deputy City Manager in 2009, and has served as City Manager since 2012. The job posting is now available on the City’s website. The position will remain open until filled, with the first review of applications anticipated on April 27, 2020. The Mayor and City Council will make the final appointment. Gaithersburg’s City Manager directs and coordinates the general administration of the City, including the preparation of the annual budget and the enforcement and execution of laws and ordinances of the City. The City Manager is responsible for overseeing all staff with the exception of the City Attorney. The Office of the City Manager provides management and administrative support for operating departments, programs and initiatives established by the Mayor and City Council. Minimum qualifications for the position include at least a bachelor’s degree and 10 years or more of local government experiences. Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree, ICMA-CM designation, and strong skills in intergovernmental relations, financial management, economic development/redevelopment, human resources, and strategic planning. The salary range is $200,000 to $230,000 depending on qualifications. The recruitment brochure is available here.
