The Chinese Culture and Community Service Center (CCACC) welcomed Dr. Kisha N. Davis, Montgomery County Health Officer on October 24 for a visit. Accompanying her was Dr. Meghan Ginn, a pathology resident at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. The primary purpose of the visit was to gain insight into and evaluate the CCACC Health Center's "Stop B" Hepatitis B Prevention Program. After the visit and discussion, Dr. Davis highly praised CCACC's efforts in serving the community, promoting public health, and fostering cultural exchange.

Departmental Report on Diverse Services

At 10:30 a.m., Dr. Davis and Dr. Ginn arrived at the center and toured the various facilities. In the conference room, Ms. Rita Lewi, Executive Director of CCACC, gave an introductory presentation on the center's organization, operations, and services. Dr. Yuchi Huang, Chairman of CCACC Board, emphasized during the meeting that, as a nonprofit community organization, CCACC's services are not limited to the Chinese or Asian communities but are available to residents of all ethnic backgrounds. The CCACC Health Center's "Mental Health 360" program is Montgomery County's first initiative focused on Asians' mental health.

Hepatitis B Prevention Efforts Require Further Support

Ms. Kate Lu, Director of CCACC Health, highlighted the "STOP B" Hepatitis B Prevention Program. She explained that major CCACC Health Center projects are originally driven by government grant funding. Unfortunately, however, the STOP B program did not receive government funding for the 2024-2027 period, though Gap Financing provided by the Montgomery County Executive will support the program through June next year. This shortfall has hindered adequate support for services and follow-up treatment for many patients; planned health screenings, vaccinations, and treatment resources have also been affected, creating challenges for numerous patients and their families. Director Lu emphasized that, despite these challenges, CCACC Health Center will continue actively seeking funding sources and strengthening partnerships with government and other community resources to provide stable, sustainable healthcare services for local residents.

Highly Praise and Look Forward to Collaboration

After the meeting, Ms. Lewi presented Dr. Davis with a silk scarf featuring an oil painting created by her. Additionally, Ms. Lewi gave Dr. Davis the CCACC annual report and an introduction to the center. Dr. Davis expressed her sincere gratitude and highly praised CCACC. Later, accompanied by Dr. Huang and Ms. Lu, Dr. Davis and Dr. Ginn toured the new location of the CCACC Health Center.

This visit was enthusiastically arranged by Ms. Julie Yang, Board Member of CCACC. Present to warmly welcome the guests were: Ms. Rita Lewi, Executive Director of CCACC; Dr. Yuchi Huang, Chairman of CCACC Board; Ms. Li-Fang C. Liu, Deputy Executive Director of CCACC; Dr. Mo-Ping Chow, Board Member of CCACC and Founding Physician of CCACC Health Center; Ms. Kate Lu, Director of CCACC Health Center; and Ms. May Zhou, Executive Secretary of CCACC.
