10.18.24 CCACC Successfully Held "Montgomery County FY 2026 Operating Budget Forum Warm-up Workshop"

"Montgomery County FY 2026 Operating Budget Forum Warm-up Workshop" was successfully held online on the evening of Sunday, October 13, presented by Ms. Ting Mei Chau, Budget Director at the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Ms. Chau not only shared her personal insights but also encouraged everyone to focus on community issues, safeguard their rights, and actively participate in the upcoming "Montgomery County FY 2026 Operating Budget Forum." "Montgomery County FY 2026 Operating Budget Forum" will be held on the evening of Wednesday, October 23, at CCACC Art Gallery. Upon learning about the forum, Ms. Ting Mei Chau, a new CCACC board member, suggested holding a general Warm-up Workshop on the county budget before the forum. Her goal was to help attendees understand the budget-setting process, its key elements, and its close ties to residents and the community. This way, participants would be better equipped to ask questions during the forum and raise concerns on behalf of the Chinese community to Montgomery County Executive, Marc Elrich. Ms. Chau's proposal was strongly supported by Ms. Rita Lewi, CCACC Executive Director, and Dr. Yuchi Huang, CCACC Chairman.

The Warm-up Workshop covered four topics: the government budget expenditure process, an overview of Montgomery County's demographics and economy, the two main types of Montgomery County government budgets, and a breakdown of examples of government budget expenditures.

The workshop concluded with a Q&A session, during which Ms. Chau enthusiastically answered participants' questions. She further emphasized the importance of active participation by the Chinese community in the government's budget decision-making process. Ms. Chau urged everyone to seize the opportunity at the upcoming forum to advocate for more resources and rights for the Chinese community.
