World Artists Experiences (WAE) presents a live performance of Andre Mehmari on October 1, 2024, 7:30 pm, at Francis Scott Key Auditorium, St. John's College, Annapolis, Maryland. This event is offered free of charge in partnership with the Embassy of Brazil.
André Mehmari is considered one of Brazil's most talented musicians. His activities as pianist, composer, and arranger are highly regarded in both popular and classical music. His compositions have been performed by leading orchestras such as Orquestra Sinfônica do Estado de São Paulo and chamber ensembles such as the São Paulo String Quartet. His career in jazz and Brazilian popular music has attained wide attention with performances in all of Brazil's major jazz festivals, at the Umbria Jazz in Italy, and at the Juan Les-Pins festival in France.
Mehmari studied music at the Conservatory of Ribeirao Preto and São Paulo State University. He has released more than forty albums and has earned numerous awards and commissions for his work. His active performing calendar includes solo piano concerts, his trio, and duos with singer Mônica Salmaso, clarinetist Gabriele Mirabassi and cellist Rafael Cesario, each blending streams of music in a unique and creative way. He recently wrote a full scale cantata for the São Paulo Municipal Theater Choir, is preparing the premieres of two operas based on Machado de Assis' literature; he continues to be one of the most sought-after composers in Brazil.
