Five members of Maryland's Asian American and Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus are organizing a meet and greet event with April McClain Delaney, the Democratic nominee for Congress, on Monday, September 16, 2024 at the Chinese Culture and Community Service Center (CCACC) in Gaithersburg.

April McClain Delaney is a former deputy assistant secretary at the U.S. Department of Commerce, and she is running to succeed Congressman David Trone to represent the 6th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. The district encompasses large portions of Montgomery County, all of Federick County, and Western Maryland.

Senator Clarence Lam and Delegates David Moon, Lily Qi, Sarah Wolek, and Chao Wu—who together represent parts of Montgomery and Howard Counties—will all speak and serve as hosts for this event. They will facilitate a dialogue with Ms. Delaney for her to hear and learn about issues and priorities that are important to the AAPI community. Ms. Delaney will be taking questions from the audience.

"As the next Congresswoman likely to represent a significant portion of a growing AAPI population in Montgomery and Frederick Counties, it's really important for April to understand the issues that impact our community," said Senator Lam, who is the only AAPI in the Senate of Maryland and the first AAPI to ever be a chair or vice chair of a standing Senate committee. "I know that April shares our values, and that's why she's been proactive in reaching out to hear directly from AAPIs across the district. This is a valuable opportunity for our AAPI community to make our voices heard."

The meet and greet is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM on Monday, September 16 with doors opening at 6:30 PM. This is a free event and not a fundraiser. The address is: 9318 Gaither Road, Suite 215, Gaithersburg, MD 20877.

"I appreciate CCACC for their continued leadership in providing a facility for these important conversations between the AAPI community and federal candidates seeking to represent our communities in elected office," said Senator Lam.
