GAITHERSBURG, Md. (February 27, 2024) City of Gaithersburg Youth Services, in partnership with the Gaithersburg Youth Opportunities Coalition, is hosting a Youth Voice Summit for local middle and high school students on Friday, March 1, 2024, from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Activity Center at Bohrer Park. The summit will focus on anti-hate and will feature keynote speakers from the Montgomery County Anti-Hate Violence Committee.
The program will include student breakout groups who will create public service announcements to raise awareness about hate violence. The PSAs will be judged with prizes for the top three winners. First prize PSA winners will win tickets to a DC United game this spring. Second and third prize winners will receive free admission tickets to the Gaithersburg Water Park and Miniature Golf Course. The top three entries will be shared on the City’s social media platforms and County outlets.
The event includes a resource fair featuring support program information and nonprofit groups. Students attending the event will receive lunch from Subway, a Youth Voice Summit t-shirt, and Student Service Learning (SSL) hours for their participation.
Friday is a half day for Montgomery County Public School students. The City encourages staff and students to attend this event to increase community-wide awareness as the rate of hate crimes is on the rise nationwide.
