Gaithersburg, Md. (November 6, 2023). For more than a quarter century, the City of Gaithersburg and its generous partners have served an average of 600 families a year for both the Thanksgiving and December holidays through its Holiday Giving Program. This year, staff anticipate serving more than 500 families in November and more than 600 families and 1,300 children in December. The Holiday Giving Program needs the communities help to ensure we can adequately serve our City families this holiday season.
Monetary donations allow us to purchase food and retail store gift cards and/or toys for use in November and December. Donations can be made through the City's online portal. Sponsorship opportunities are also available for families, businesses, congregations, and organizations. To learn more about sponsorship opportunities or how to join the Holiday Giving Coalition, email Maureen.Herndon@
To ensure non-duplication of service, the program operates in conjunction with the countywide Holiday Giving Project, coordinated by the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services. Area schools, social service and nonprofit organizations make referrals to a centralized database, and those living in the City of Gaithersburg are then referred to the City's Community Services Division for assistance.
The Gaithersburg Holiday Giving Coalition is composed of members of area congregations, businesses, individuals, and nonprofits who work together to support City families during the November and December holidays. The residents of Wells/Robertson House and members of the Gaithersburg Youth Club and the Gaithersburg Financial Wellness Coalition are also integral to the program's success.
