Mid-County Regional Office | Wheaton Urban District - Public Service Internship (PSI)

The Public Service Internship (PSI) Program is a ten-week professional, civic engagement and leadership development program that provides aspiring leaders an opportunity to serve and engage communities across Montgomery County. 
This internship will be based out of the Mid-County Regional Office this is located in Wheaton. We encourage you to learn more about the Mid-County Regional Office prior to completing this application by visiting: https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/midcounty/

Undergraduate, graduate and recently graduated students are welcome to apply. Once accepted, interns are paired with a staff member and tasked with specific foci related to their career and educational aspirations.

FIRSTHAND EXPERIENCE IN LOCAL GOVERNMENT
The Public Service Internship Program provides undergraduate and graduate-level students from all majors with service-learning opportunities and valuable exposure to municipal government. PSI interns learn firsthand how local government works and contribute to the design, implementation, and evaluation of ongoing projects. 
Additional enrichment opportunities include attending professional development seminars and interacting with senior staff, local civic organizations, advocacy groups, business leaders, and partner organizations. 

Program Requirements 

  • • A minimum of 20-hours per week for 10 weeks 
  • • Participate in all Mid-County sponsored activities
  • • Comply with Montgomery County policies regarding work performance and personal conduct 
  • • Ability to work on-site in downtown Wheaton

Eligibility 

  • • Currently enrolled in a university program or recent graduate, within relevant field of study, or recently graduated
  • • Demonstrated passion for serving and empowering community 
  • • Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative, and impact-driven environment
  • • Strong communication, analytical, and organizational skills
  • • High level of confidentiality and professionalism 
  • • Sensitivity to diverse population’s cultural and socioeconomic circumstances

Compensation

  • • Interns will receive a stipend of $22 per hour.
