Gaithersburg, MD, October 26, 2023 – Three artists from Maryland are going to exhibit at CCACC Art Gallery from November 4 to December 29, 2023 their 300 artworks including wood art, plein air paintings and a collection of objects found on the farm. At the opening reception of the exhibition "Intimate Encounters" from 2 pm – 4 pm, Saturday, November 4, the exhibit artists Celeste Lucid Wiser, Julia Sutliff and Mary McCoy will be present to share their artistic journeys with the audience.

According to CCACC Art Gallery Director Rita Lewi, the three artists create artworks that are very different from one another, yet all of their works are small and intimate and invite the viewer to come in close and explore their compelling details.

Wiser's work is intimate by the very nature of how it's made. Using a scroll saw, this Silver Spring artist deftly cuts out an intricately interlocking network of shapes, then paints each tiny one, differentiating and animating them with vivid, surprising color. Full of whimsical details, whirling spirals, and clockwork gears, these unusual works of art double as jigsaw puzzles.

A skilled plein air painter, Sutliff searches out pockets of nature in the suburban landscape near her home in Cockeysville, north of Baltimore. She paints quickly to capture fleeting glimpses of light, color and form, so that each of her oil paintings is filled with the sensation of being outdoors in a specific place at a specific moment in time.

McCoy's "Apothecary" documents her encounters with intriguing objects found on her family's Centreville, MD farm beside a tidal river flowing to the Chesapeake Bay. Consisting of over 200 jars containing both natural materials and objects inadvertently left by humans, each is labeled with a brief, often poetic description of the contents, sometimes including the circumstances of when and where they were found. The lid of each jar is painted gold to indicate the sacred nature of the materials inside.

CCACC Art Gallery, located in Gaithersburg, MD, is a nonprofit art gallery established in 2016 for celebrating diversity and enhancing the multicultural art appreciation of the community. The Gallery holds eight art exhibitions yearly.
