Gaithersburg, Md. (September 14, 2023). For more than a quarter century, the City of Gaithersburg and its generous partners have served families for both the Thanksgiving and December holidays. Keeping the spirit of giving alive during the holidays is especially important as many people deal with challenges presented by our current economic climate.

The City of Gaithersburg and the Gaithersburg Holiday Giving Coalition are happy to announce that we will again be serving families referred by school and nonprofit counselors through our Holiday Giving program. We anticipate providing food to more than 700 families in November and gifts to help make the holidays brighter for more than 1,800 children in December.

Monetary donations allow us to purchase food and retail store gift cards for use in November and December. Donations can be made through the City's online portal.  Organizations are also being sought to sponsor families and fill gift bags for teenagers (gift bags will be provided).

To ensure non-duplication of service, the program operates in conjunction with the countywide Holiday Giving Project, coordinated by the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services. Area schools, social service and nonprofit organizations make referrals to a centralized database, and those living in the City of Gaithersburg are then referred to the City's Community Services Division for assistance.

The Gaithersburg Holiday Giving Coalition is composed of members of area congregations, businesses, individuals, and nonprofits who work together to support City families during the November and December holidays. To volunteer for the events or join the Coalition, email Maureen.Herndon@gaithersburgmd.gov. The residents of Wells/Robertson House and members of the Gaithersburg Youth Club and the Gaithersburg Financial Wellness Coalition are also integral to the program's success.
