Professional Photographers Society of Greater Washington (PPSGW) 2023 Exhibition was opened on Saturday, July 15 at Chinese Culture and Community Service Center (CCACC) Art Gallery located in Gaithersburg, MD. Dozens of photography enthusiasts attended the opening reception for face-to-face communication with the 13 participating photographers. Photographer Eddie Kang's artworks titled "The Sunken Ship" and "Passion or Confrontation" and Phil Powell's piece "Cruising" sold at the reception.

Rita Lewi, CCACC Art Gallery Director and CCACC Executive Director, announced the opening of the PPSGW exhibition at 2:00 PM on July 15. This marks the second time CCACC Art Gallery showcased works from PPSGW since 2017. Following the announcement, PPSGW President Aaron Beale expressed deep gratitude for CCACC's generous support before introducing the exhibit coordinator and former PPSGW President Eddie Kang as well as the other 11 participating photographers. Lewi then invited everyone to enjoy refreshments while viewing the artworks and engaging with the photographers.

Running from July 15 to September 1, the photography exhibition displays 51 photographs representing landscapes, portraits, flowers and birds, still life, and architecture, along with post-processed portrait photos. Visitors were amazed that each work has a unique production process. For instance, Kang's masterpiece "The Lonely Chirping Bird" appears like a typical traditional Chinese painting, yet it is in effect a post-processed image integrating a bird photograph he had taken and a calligraphy piece he had created of two lines from a Tang Dynasty (618-907 A.D.) poem depicting lonely spring scenery. "Artwork Before and After" presents two versions of a family portrait, showcasing how photographer Gary Lloyd's post-processing successfully transformed a three-generation family group photo of over 20 individuals into an elegant and emotionally resonant piece of art. Additionally, Gary Jones brought his mother to the exhibition reception to meet with the audiences so they would better understand his photo "The Destination Ahead" highlighting his African American mother riding a bus, saying goodbye to a century of racial segregation in the United States.

Professional Photographers Society of Greater Washington (PPSGW) is the Professional Photographers of America (PPA) state affiliate for Washington DC. Established in 1932, the organization is dedicated to networking, promoting and educating professional photographers in the Washington DC area. Currently, PPSGW has over 30 members and organizes regular educational seminars, workshops, photography meet-ups and print competitions each year.
