The first CCACC Charity Pickleball Tournament was successfully held on May 6th at CCACC Sports, known as Quince Orchard Swimming and Tennis Club (QOSTC). Thanks to the sponsors of this charity tournament, including The Cabalu Group of Wells Fargo Advisors, Solid Gold, Inc., Dr. Mo-Ping Chow, and Joe Flaherty's Dolphins for providing financial sponsorship, and MGM National Harbor Hotel & Casino for providing prizes and gifts. A total of 16 teams (32 players) participated in this event, and a total of about $7,000 in charitable donations was raised, which will be used for the various medical services provided by CCACC Health Center to the community.
Pickleball is a sport that has emerged in recent years and gained high popularity. It is a sport that is suitable for all ages. The youngest player who participated in this event is only 12, and the oldest is over 70. In addition to the well-known swimming and tennis training programs, a pickleball sports field is specially set up. The QOSTC also provides professional coaches to guide beginners (for details, please refer to the website: https://www.qostc .org/).
The charitable funds raised will support the Pan Asian Volunteer Health Clinic of CCACC Health Center to provide about 62 unpaid disease prevention and chronic disease management services for low-income, uninsured, or underinsured clinic patients. These preventive medical services include annual health checkups, gynecological checkups, routine blood work, and cancer screenings (including breast cancer, cervical cancer, colon cancer, etc.). At the same time, with the support of the community, we continue to work on solving the problem of inequality in health resources for Asian American, providing hepatitis B virus screening and free hepatitis B vaccination services for residents who are not immune.
CCACC Health Center is particularly grateful to the Title Sponsor, Mr. George C. Cabala, a senior financial advisor of Wells Fargo Bank, for the title sponsorship. Mr. Cabalu shared that he grew up in the Rockville Asian community. His family benefited from the services of CCACC and has a deep affection for CCACC. He is very happy to have the opportunity to contribute to the community at this time
Mr. George C. Cabalu is also a pickleball player. He teamed up with Mr. Terry Hsiao, CCACC Board Member and the founder of the CCACC Pickleball Tournament. In this game, they won the championship easily with 6 unbeaten records. The runners-up were Johnny Ma and Rosanna Kwok of FF Fraternity.
Regarding this event, CCACC would like to thank the members of the CCACC board of directors, 32 players, the staff of QOSTC and Pan Asian Volunteer Health Clinic, and many volunteers, who participated in the game that day for their hard preparation, full support, and charitable dedication, making this event a complete success. CCACC hopes that more people will enthusiastically join the charity pickleball tournament next year. Because of everyone's support, CCACC can provide more comprehensive one-stop healthcare services and a complete medical system for disadvantaged residents in the community.
