4.14.2023 Public Invited to Comment on Community Development Block Grant 5-Year Consolidated Plan

GAITHERSBURG, Md. (April 12, 2023) The City of Gaithersburg invites the public to comment on its Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) 5-Year-Consolidated Plan. The City uses the Plan to assess affordable housing and community development needs and market conditions, and make data-driven, place-based investment decisions that guide its use of federal dollars and other resources to meet housing and community development needs.

There are multiple ways for the public to participate. The Draft Plan is available for public comment through 5 p.m. on May 5. A survey about the plan is available in both English and Spanish. The Draft Plan and comment forms are also available at the Gaithersburg Public LibraryQuince Orchard Public LibraryCity Hall, and the Activity Center at Bohrer Park.

The City will hold two public meetings on Wednesday, April 19. A virtual meeting will be held at 1:30 p.m. and an in-person meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Activity Center at Bohrer Park.

The City is preparing its 5-Year Plan for the period of July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2028, including an Annual Action Plan for the one-year period of July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024. The City will receive $464,995 in CDBG funds for this year's Action Plan.

About the Community Development Block Grant

The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) is a federal program administered by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) that supports local community development activities to build stronger and more resilient communities. To support community development, activities are identified through an ongoing process. Since 2003, the City has used CDBG funding for first-time homebuyer assistance, emergency rental assistance, home repairs, community revitalization activities, and human services. Learn more about the program here.
