Memorial Day Recycling to be Picked Up the PRECEDING Saturday

Gaithersburg, MD (May 24, 2022) In observance of Memorial Day, City offices and most facilities will be closed on Monday, May 30, 2022, with the exception of the following: 

  • • The Miniature Golf Course will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • • The Water Park will be open from Noon to 6 p.m. for City of Gaithersburg residents and Aquatics Members ONLY.
  • • The free interactive water feature at Olde Towne Plaza will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • • The Gaithersburg Aquatic Center will be open from 5:15 to 8:30 p.m.
  • • Gaithersburg Police Department Administrative Offices will be open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Memorial Day Salute

Loyalty and patriotism will be on full display as the City joins the nation in honoring all who have given their lives in military service at its Memorial Day Observance on Monday, May 30 at 11 a.m. at Christman Park. The public is invited to join the Mayor and City Council, Junior Mayor, City staff and honored guests in a tribute to those of all generations who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

The patriotic ceremony will include words and music to commemorate the occasion, followed by a solemn wreath-laying ceremony. Joining the observance will be guest speaker Dr. Richard W. Thomas, MD, DDS, FACS (Major General - Retired).

Flags for Our Heroes, featuring an impressive display of more than 700 American flags, returns to the lawn at Bohrer Park at Summit Hall Farm, Friday, May 27 through Monday, May 30. A formal opening ceremony will take place on Saturday, May 28 at 11 a.m. There will be a worn flag retirement ceremony at dusk on Sunday, May 29.  Flags are sponsored by individuals and organizations to honor their "heroes." Click here for sponsorship details. Flags for Our Heroes is organized by the Rotary Clubs of Gaithersburg, Montgomery Village, and Historic Emory Grove and is hosted by the City of Gaithersburg.

Recycling and Bulk Pick Up

The collection of recycled materials for residents whose regular recycling day is Monday, May 30, 2022, will take place on the PRECEDING Saturday, May 28. This includes newspaper, mixed paper, corrugated cardboard, and commingled materials, as well as  brush, branches, grass clippings, leaves and other yard trimmings, picked up by the City's recycling contractor. On-demand bulk pick up for residents whose regular recycling day is Monday, May 30 will be unavailable. Appointments can be made for the following week using the online form, by e-mailing BulkPickUp@gaithersburgmd.gov, or by calling 301-258-6370.

Regular trash and garbage collection for City residents is handled by private contractors. Please contact your HOA or your private contractor regarding the holiday collection schedule for these materials.
