Gaithersburg, MD (April 15, 2022) In celebration of Asian American and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander Heritage Month, the City of Gaithersburg is pleased to present the annual exhibit featuring artwork by members of the Harmonious Art Group, on display through June 19, 2022 at the Activity Center at Bohrer Park. Viewing hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Masks are optional; social distancing is encouraged. A free reception to meet the artists takes place on Sunday, May 15, at 2 p.m. The public is invited to view the artwork in person and learn more about this special art genre.
This year celebrates the 22nd year the group members will exhibit their works in traditional and contemporary Asian styles with the City. The Harmonious Art Group was founded in 1995 by Bertrand Mao, master of Chinese Shan-Shui (Mountain-Water) and calligraphy, and John Wang, master of Chinese calligraphy and seal cutting, to share the beauty of this ancient art form with the community. Over the years, members have incorporated new techniques and styles demonstrating the diversity of Chinese art. There are 35 pieces in the exhibit and the artists include founders Bertrand Mao and John Wang, with members Jessica Chen, Meilih Chen, Tiny Cholyibul, Joanne Dai, BinJi Huang, Natcha Lo, LiWen Quach, and Carole Yee. Examples of the work will be featured on Facebook and Instagram at @artsonthegreen throughout the exhibit period.
Please note that most of the included artwork is for sale and all images are copyrighted by the artists. For more information or to make an appointment to visit, please contact 301-258-6394, e-mail artgalleries@gaithersburgmd.
