4.15.2022 Explore Your Inner Performer with Theatre Topics Tuesdays at the Arts Barn

Gaithersburg, Md. (April 12, 2022) The Arts Barn invites you to take part in its newest workshop series, Theatre Topics Tuesdays. Join local directors and performers as they present on a wide range of theatre styles and techniques, including Shakespeare, Improvisation, Physical Theatre, and Storytelling, each perfect for any level of performance experience. The sessions are suitable for ages 16+ and will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Arts Barn, 311 Kent Square Road. The cost is $26 for City of Gaithersburg residents, $30 for nonresidents. Workshops include:

April 26 - Performing Shakespeare

Have fun exploring the language of the Bard. Learn the power behind the prose while trying your hand at famous soliloquies and scenes. Class #12450

May 10 - Improv for Self-Confidence

Improvisation, or unscripted theatre, can be a great way to have fun while building confidence. This workshop will tap into your ability to think off the cuff and encourages self-assured presentation skills. Local director and actor Amy Benson's class includes games and creative risk taking to help you feel more comfortable, confident, and loose on stage and in front of a crowd. Class #12449

May 24 - Physical Theater for Self-Care

In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, join the Arts Barn to learn how physical theatre can be used to create safe spaces for self-expression and self-care. Instructor Pam Freedy of the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama will explain what physical theatre is and can be, introduce the work of well-known physical theatre companies, and invite participants to put some of these concepts into practice. June 14 – Storytelling

Everyone has a story to tell, and we want to hear yours. This workshop teaches simple but powerful skills to develop and present stories that are authentic and memorable. You'll learn how to engage an audience, build suspense and depth, and find joy in sharing your words. Class #12452
