Gaithersburg, MD (April 12, 2022) Gaithersburg's Arts on the Green presents the 36th annual juried art exhibition of the Gaithersburg Fine Arts Association (GFAA), on display through June 26, 2022, at Kentlands Mansion, 320 Kent Square Road. Artist and instructor Susan O'Neill juried this exhibit. Susan holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Michigan and post-graduate studies with internationally recognized instructors at the University of Michigan, the Rhode Island School of Design, the Corcoran School of Art, Studio Incaminati in Philadelphia, The Art League in Alexandria, and the Art Students' League in New York City.
Susan's many years of diverse experience have honed her artist's eye and provided varied opportunities to exhibit her work. She has received multiple "Best in Show" awards and honors in watercolor, oil painting, and drawing. Currently, she is on the faculty at The Art League in Alexandria, VA and the University of Maryland, College Park. Susan is known for her enthusiastic and informative teaching style, where she emphasizes the importance of a strong foundation in the principles of art and design to achieve inspired and expressive works of art.
Fifty pieces were chosen for this year's exhibition. Best in Show goes to Isabella Martire for her oil painting, "Grace." Other award winners include Noelie Angevine, Kenneth Bachman, Betsy Baden, Gail Kaplan-Wassell, Robert Maarsen, William Mapes, Grace Newcomer, Sandra Shraibman, Linda Slattery Sherman, Chris Wikman, and Estelle Zorman. Honorable Mentions go to Susan Carelli, Rafael Galan, Marta Legeckis, and Jeanne Powell. Other artists include Susan Bradley, Mak Dehejia, Maria Sola-Simon, and Darla Tagrin.
Founded in 1976, the GFAA is a community of artists residing in Montgomery County and beyond that provides a forum to collaborate on activities that expand on individual artistic backgrounds. The group provides educational programs, promotional opportunities and outreach to local audiences and the broader artistic community, and it holds multiple exhibits throughout the year.
