Dear community,
I have two major virtual events taking place tomorrow. Please show your support by joining us for my talk at 12:00pm PST, where I’ll share my experience organizing the Bulosan Center, and for my book launch event for my newest publication, Contemporary Asian American Activism. More information can be found below!
At 12:00pm PST, I am invited by the Race, Ethnicity and Immigration Colloquium to speak about my journey in founding the Bulosan Center. Join us virtually as I discuss the broader challenges Filipinx scholars face including being actively dissuaded by mentors from taking on topics in Filipinx Studies, the lack of funding, the denial of tenure, and more. I will then narrate how I drew less on my own academic achievements and more on my insights as an activist and community organizer to launch the Bulosan Center, which now hosts a digital archive, a peer-reviewed journal, a major source of survey data, and a book series. The Center is playing a vital role in supporting the expansion of the field of Filipinx Studies from a community-engaged approach.

Then, at 4pm PST, join Haymarket and the University of Washington Press for a critical discussion on Asian American activism and movement building today. This Thursday, February 17th from 4:00pm-5:30pm PST.
I am very excited to have had the chance to work with my mentor, Dr. Diane Fujino as we uplift the rich and radical history of Asian American activism in our upcoming book. Bringing together grassroots organizers and scholar-activists, Contemporary Asian American Activism presents lived experiences of the fight for transformative justice and offers lessons to ensure the longevity and sustainability of organizing. In the face of imperialism, white supremacy, racial capitalism, heteropatriarchy, ableism, and more, the contributors celebrate victories and assess failures, reflect on the trials of activist life, critically examine long-term movement building, and inspire continued mobilization for coming generations.
