2.4.2022 Volunteers Sought for Gaithersburg Board of Appeals & Historic District Commission

Gaithersburg, MD (February 1, 2022) The City of Gaithersburg is seeking to fill vacancies on the Board of Appeals for one full and one alternate member, and a vacancy on the Historic District Commission for one alternate member. All applicants must reside within the corporate City limits. These positions remain open until filled.

The Board of Appeals is a quasi-judicial committee that hears and decides special exceptions and authorizes variances from the strict application of the terms or requirements of the City's Zoning Ordinance. The Board also conducts administrative reviews of any final order, requirement, decision or determination made by any administrative official, City department (as allowed by the City Code), Planning Commission, or Historic District Commission. The Historic District Commission strives to ensure that historic resources within the City are preserved, recognizing that the sense of place they provide is valuable to current City residents, key to attracting future City residents, and integral to developing economic generating heritage tourism within the City. The Commission is responsible for determining Montgomery County Historic Preservation Tax Credit eligibility, reviewing Historic Area Work Permits, conducting courtesy reviews, and nominating potential resources for historic designation.
