"Not Your Model Minority" explores the origins of the stereotype and the intersections with past and present anti-Asian violence. The film reveals that many ways that the model minority myth has been used to create a wedge between communities of color and perpetuate divisive narratives and examines opportunities to build power and make progress toward addressing systemic racism in America.

Following the screening will be an insightful panel featuring Osaki along with featured documentary speakers Mike Ishii (Community Organizer, Tsuru for Solidarity) and Ellen Wu (Associate Professor, Indiana University Bloomington and Author of The Color of Success: Asian Americans and the Origins of the Model Minority). Heaven Chee (Stop Repeating History) will moderate.
