As one of well-known community organization located in Montgomery County, Chinese Culture and Community Service Center (CCACC) has been standing in solidarity with the AAPI (Asian American and Pacific Islanders) communities to denounce the rising level of violence, harassment and hatred against AAPI in the tide of anti-hate crime nationwide. In the meanwhile, the Yellow Whistle Project, which was officially launched in April, has been raising awareness about the hate crimes against Asian Americans. APA Justice, as the main advocate of the Yellow Whistle Campaign, has been bringing a lot of efforts to partner with Asian community organizations for unity against hate and justice against discrimination.

On June 11, with the coordination of CCACC Board Member Ms. Julie Yang, co-organizer of APA Justice Dr. Jeremy Wu and his wife Deanie Wu visited CCACC headquarter in person, and delivered 300 yellow whistles to CCACC Executive Director Mr. Chih-Hsiang Li.

During the visit, Dr. Jeremy Wu briefly introduced the initial motivation of APA Justice and developing trend of the Yellow Whistle Campaign. “APA Justice Task Force was formed to speak up and seek for justice of the Asian Americans who are experiencing discrimination and unfairly treatment,” he said, “we are totally against any racial profiling to accuse a whole group of people, and exclude them using fear and suspicious tactics because of the origin.”

Dr. Jeremy Wu referred that Asian Americans’ contribution to the US society is indelible, but the discrimination and uneven treatment are shocked, in particular during the epidemic. That is how the Yellow Whistle Campaign was launched. Mr. Chih-Hsiang Li agreed that the symbol of the yellow whistle is very simple but strong, and he was amazed to know that the distribution number of the yellow whistles had reached to 500K nationwide from initial 10K. He appreciated the opportunity of being in partnership with Yellow Whistle Campaign to contribute the safety and unify of the Chinese Community.

Following the meeting, Mr. Chih-Hsiang Li invited Dr. Jeremy Wu and his wife to visit the CCACC facility and introduced the diversified services CCACC has been providing. He mentioned the new establishment of CCACC Academy in particular, which was expected to expand the service in the field of education. Dr.Wu were so grateful to know the range and quality of the service CCACC has been offering.

Yellow Whistle Project was officially launched on April 19, Patriots' Day in response to the anti-Asian hate and violence. In nature, yellow signals the advent of spring, bringing hope, optimism, and enlightenment.  In America, yellow has been weaponized against Asians as the color of xenophobia. The whistle is a symbol of self-protection and solidarity in our common fight against historical discrimination, anti-Asian violence, and racial profiling.  It has a universal purpose - to signal alarm and call for help - for all Americans.
