With the lifting of restrictions in Montgomery County and in Maryland, Gaithersburg will enter Phase 3 of its Phased Service Restoration Plan on Monday, June 14, 2021. The Plan, which can be viewed here, provides an overview of what the public can expect. Details about how specific facilities and programs will operate can be found on individual webpages. Note that not all services will be restored simultaneously; some will be phased in over the summer months due to staffing and operational considerations. Also, a number of programs will continue to be held virtually for those who wish to participate remotely.

Masks are now optional, both outdoors and in our public facilities (some exceptions may apply). Masks are strongly encouraged if physical distancing cannot be maintained. For those who are unvaccinated, masks are also strongly encouraged indoors at all times and outdoors if physical distancing cannot be maintained.

Walk-in services will be available at City Hall, the Activity Center at Bohrer ParkPublic Works, and the Police Station. Appointments are recommended, but not required. Physical distancing will be encouraged in public spaces. Visitors may be asked to wait outside if areas become crowded. Note that hours and staffing may be limited as many employees continue to telework.

Among the services and programs being restored are:

  1. The Benjamin Gaither Center for older adults reopens on June 14. Transportation and the daily lunch program remain suspended.
  2. The Fitness Zone at the Activity Center remains open on weekdays only, but appointments will no longer be required.
  3. Ride-alongs with the Gaithersburg Police Department are permitted.
  4. Private rentals of many City facilities will be allowed and previous capacity restrictions will be eased.
  5. Visits to the Arts Barn remain by appointment only due to summer camp programs being held in the building. Limited in-person theater performances and concerts will resume.
  6. Casey Community Center visits remain by appointment only due to summer camp programs being held in the building.
  7. The Community Museum remains open by appointment only. Some outdoor programming is resuming.
  8. Kentlands Mansion remains open by appointment only, but some in-person programming will return this summer. Outdoor movies on the lawn are planned in July.
  9. The Water Park remains open to City residents and Aquatics Members only on weekends; County residents may attend on weekdays.
  10. Capacity restrictions are lifted at the Miniature Golf Course; a waitlist may be in place during high volume times.
  11. Sports participants and spectators may remove masks outdoors, although those who are unvaccinated are encouraged to wear them if physical distancing is not possible. Everyone must wear masks for all indoor sports.

A number of activities are safely being planned this summer, packaged as a Stay Gaithersburg campaign. Explore options for a Gaithersburg staycation on our website here. Events will continue to be added as the situation evolves. Updates will be available at www.gaithersburgmd.gov and on Facebook and Twitter @GburgMD.
