Gaithersburg, MD (October 15, 2020) For a quarter century, the City of Gaithersburg and its generous partners have served families for both the Thanksgiving and December holidays. In this year like no other, keeping the spirit of giving alive will be especially important. The City of Gaithersburg and the Gaithersburg Holiday Giving Coalition are happy to announce that we will again be serving families referred by school and nonprofit counselors through our Holiday Giving program.
We anticipate providing food to more than 600 families in November and gifts to help make the holidays brighter for more than 1,900 children in December. Given the current public health crisis, we suspect the need will be great this year.
Monetary donations allow us to purchase food and retail store gift cards for use in November and December. Donations can be made through the City’s online portal. If paying by check, please make it payable to City of Gaithersburg / Holiday Giving Program and mail to: Community Services Office, 31 S. Summit Ave., Gaithersburg, MD 20877.
Because we need to limit contact during the COVID-19 pandemic, we are only accepting monetary donations this year. We will not be collecting books, toys or stocking stuffers.
To ensure non-duplication of service, the program operates in conjunction with the countywide Holiday Giving Project, which is coordinated by the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services. Area schools, social service and nonprofit organizations make referrals to a centralized database, and those living in the City of Gaithersburg are then referred to the City’s Community Services Division for assistance.
