Gaithersburg, MD (June 8, 2020)  Due to the continuing public health crisis, the City of Gaithersburg announced the cancellation two popular summer events. It was determined that the SummerFest and Fireworks event at Bohrer Park on July 4th and the popular SportsFest program on July 11 could not be safely held due to gathering and social distancing restrictions.

“The City is working to provide engaging virtual activities in celebration of America's Independence Day and we’ll be inviting the entire community to join us for daily sports challenges during a weeklong SportsFest,” said Carolyn Muller, Director of the City’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Culture.

A fireworks show recalling the glorious displays of previous years will be available for you to view at your leisure. Staff is also busily coordinating virtual activities for both festivals. Details will be posted on the City’s website at www.gaithersburgmd.gov.

To help slow the spread of the coronavirus, the City of Gaithersburg has closed all facilities and cancelled all in-person programs and activities through June 14, 2020. Select facilities will be open for in-person visits by appointment only starting June 15. Official City updates are made on the City’s website at www.gaithersburgmd.gov and on Facebook and Twitter @GburgMD.
