City of Gaithersburg Update: Suspension of All But the Most Essential of Services, Facility Closures Extended to June 14

 

Gaithersburg, MD (May 27, 2020) The City of Gaithersburg is committed to adhering to the stringent guidelines necessary to help slow the spread of infection and to protect the health and safety of our residents and our employees. We are following guidance from the Governor’s Office and from the Montgomery County Health Department as we develop our Phased Service Restoration Plan, which will be announced to the public the week of June 8. The plan will be posted on the City’s website upon completion.

 

The situation is being monitored daily, with updates being made on the City’s website at www.gaithersburgmd.gov and on Facebook and Twitter @GburgMD. Gaithersburg has also established an Emergency Assistance and Community Support webpage, which is updated daily with resources and information for residents and businesses. A COVID-19 Dashboard with Gaithersburg-specific information is also available online.

 

The City will keep the following cancellations and modifications in place through at least June 14, 2020. Meanwhile, we urge you to continue to rely on trusted sources for the most up-to-date information about coronavirus, including what to do if you are experiencing symptoms. You’ll find the most current information on the Montgomery County Health and Human Services website.

 

Facilities

All City of Gaithersburg buildings remain closed to public access. Facilities are being prepared for employees to return to work, which will be followed by limited public access upon reopening. At this time, only City staff needed to perform essential and/or timely functions are being allowed in our buildings.

 

Services

  • Most in-person services have been suspended through at least June 14, 2020. Visit the City’s website for online services. Note that some services may not be available and response times may be delayed due to limited employee coverage. We appreciate your patience and understanding
  • Report life-threatening animal control concerns to 301-279-8000 or 240-773-5230.
  • Recycling is being picked up on its regular schedule.
  • Bulk pick up resumes on June 1. The Compost Drop Off Site is now open. Curbside loose leaf collection will take place in the fall. Bagged leaves continue to be collected with recycling materials.

 

Events & Activities

There will be no public events, programs, classes, sports, performances, or non-essential meetings through at least June 14, 2020.

 

Legislative Meetings

Meetings of the Mayor and City Council, Planning Commission, Board of Appeals and Historic District Commission are being held only if necessary, and they are being held virtually by teleconference online and by phone. To view a meeting:

  • Tune in on your television to Comcast or RCN channel 13, or Verizon channel 25 (viewable within City limits only), or countywide on Comcast Channel 190 (only during the live meeting broadcasts).
  • Online via the City’s YouTube page.
  • Via phone (audio only).
