Gaithersburg, Md. (November 18, 2021)  The City of Gaithersburg earned a score of 100 points in the 10th annual Municipal Equality Index, an initiative of the Human Rights Campaign that examines the inclusivity of laws, policies and services with respect to the LGBTQ+ community. The City’s score in 2020 was 93. The Index used 49 different criteria to rate 506 cities across the country. The average score nationally was 67, up three points from 2020.

Gaithersburg achieved additional points in 2021 for having all-gender single occupancy facilities, having a non-discrimination ordinance for City contractors, taking a public position on LGBTQ+ equality, and for having leaders demonstrate pro-equality legislative and policy efforts.

"I'm delighted that we've achieved an even higher score on the Index this year," said Mayor Jud Ashman. "Our commitment to being a welcoming City that values equity and inclusion is affirmed by this rating."
