3.16.2020 Governor Hogan Issue More Orders to Close More Facilities to Combat COVID-19 Crisis

In light of the serious public health emergency created by the COVID-19 pandemic, Governor Larry Hogan today ordered the closure of bars and restaurants, and expanded the prohibition on gatherings to those of more than 50 people. Hogan has issued an emergency order to close all Maryland casinos, racetracks, and simulcast betting facilities to the general public indefinitely the day before.

Below is a general list of actions the governor announced during his press conference at Government House today:

  • Closure Of Bars, Restaurants, Fitness Centers, And Theaters  (Effective At 5:00 P.M. Today);

Prohibition On Gatherings Of More Than 50 People;

  • Standing Up An Additional 6,000 Beds;

Activation Of Maryland Responds Medical Reserve Corps;

Resource Control;

  • Fully Active 1000 National Guard, And Another 1200 In A State Of Enhanced Readiness;

The following properties are affected by the governor’s emergency order, which takes effect at midnight on Monday, March 16, 2020 and will remain in effect until the state of emergency has been terminated or until superseded by other orders:

  • MGM National Harbor
  • Live! Casino & Hotel
  • Horseshoe Casino Baltimore
  • Hollywood Casino Perryville
  • Ocean Downs Casino
  • Rocky Gap Casino Resort
  • Laurel Park
  • Pimlico Race Course
  • Timonium Race Course
  • Fair Hill Races
  • Rosecroft Raceway
  • Ocean Downs
  • All simulcast betting facilities in the state

This order does not apply to hotels adjacent to casinos. Additionally, Governor Hogan reiterated that failure to follow his order prohibiting large gatherings is a crime, and will be enforced if businesses fail to comply.
