The very first session of the Senior Technology Training Program sponsored by City of Gaithersburg, and provided by Chinese Culture and Community Service Center Inc. (CCACC) ended in success on August 31.

Starting March this year, CCACC has been working with the City of Gaithersburg (CoG) to develop the Senior Technology Training Program tailoring the CoG seniors’ continuous learning needs in technology. The first session came out in July, consisting of 8 weeks long, and providing very essential knowledge for the seniors.

A total of 18 seniors registered for the 1st launched Senior Technology Training Basic class. They drove or took the bus to Benjamin Gaither Center every Wednesday early morning to catch the classes. The topics of the Basic class include Intro to technology devices, Setting devices, Getting on the internet, How to “Zoom”, Call and Messaging, Photo and Editing with smartphone or iPad, Gmail…etc. One of the seniors, Claire said, she knew nothing about technology. She needs to start from the first stair. Ms. Weltzman mentioned she is an artist and never thought she needed to make friends with technology in her whole life before the pandemic. COVID made her change her lifestyle. She is not afraid and willing to change her mindset to learn something new in her life.1111.png

Graduation Ceremony from the 1st session of the CCACC Senior Technology Training Program

CCACC started to develop this program during the COVID pandemic in the middle of the year 2020. We realized that it was not healthy for seniors to stay at home without socializing with family and friends. The spark of the idea to develop the Senior Technology Training Program came to the CCACC STT team's mind. Joy Wang, the project manager, has been diligently organizing the youth to tutor how to get on Zoom and answer the technical questions related to smartphones, iPad, and laptops. More than 1,000 participants nationwide benefit from this program.

CCACC will continuously devote itself to creating new technology training sessions at different levels and occasions to benefit more seniors who are going to step up the further connection with technology. The following classes are planned at Oaks at Olde Town in September and Intermediate level at Benjamin Gaither Center in November.  For more detail, you may find the flyers below for registration.
