The City of Gaithersburg, through its Educational Enrichment Committee (EEC), is seeking not for profit, 501(c)(3) agencies to partner with specific schools in the Gaithersburg area to apply for FY22 School-Based Nonprofit Grants. This program is designed to support nonprofit agencies that provide school-based programming to City youth in partnership with an eligible Elementary (starting with Pre-K), Middle or High School.

Applications will be accepted for FY22 grants starting April 1. All applications must be submitted through an automated grant portal, accessible here. The application deadline is 5 p.m. on Friday, April 30, 2021. The portal will be closed after that date and time.

An optional training on the use of the portal for nonprofit personnel will be offered on Thursday, March 25, from noon to 1 p.m. Please email grants@gaithersburgmd.gov to request the virtual training link.

The focus areas for these grants as determined by ongoing needs assessments, documented needs as a result of the COVID-19 crisis, and input from City youth, schools and area service providers, include:

·Youth Mental Health Support to Include After School Programs

·Career & Employment

·Parental Engagement & Support

·Addiction Prevention

·Student Access to Needed Equipment & Technology

·Early Childhood Development

·Mentoring

·Literacy & Language Initiatives from Cradle to Career

Note that the EEC has determined that priority funding will be awarded to programs that have clearly defined and committed collaboration partnerships or plans with City of Gaithersburg departments and the Youth Opportunities Coalition. The Committee will also focus on proposals that provide extra-curricular and after school activities. All proposals must demonstrate equitable and creative outreach and student engagement within all of the City’s cultural communities.

Programs must be conducted with the approval of and in collaboration with the host school. Host schools must have a student enrollment population of 10% or more or at least 150 City of Gaithersburg resident students. The FY22 listing of eligible schools is available in the Documents box on the grant webpage. Other requirements can also be found there.

The Gaithersburg Community Services Division reviews applications for technical compliance, after which they are submitted to the City’s Educational Enrichment Committee for evaluation. Awards recommended by the committee are submitted to the Mayor and City Council for funding consideration as part of the FY22 budget cycle.
