About the Club

CCACC’s Gu Zheng Club was established by Ms. Alice Kan in 2003, with the goal of providing a cathartic experience through playing the zither (guzheng).  The club performs at CCACC’s Annual Anniversary Celebration and Lunar New Year Celebration as well as various community events throughout the year. Guzheng is an important part of folk music with its clear, melodious voice that sounds like pearls falling into a jade plate.

Ms. Kan has studied with several famous teachers and has a rich experience in teaching. Her self-made teaching materials are designed to help students master guzheng. It is easy to learn and suitable for all ages, from 6 year-old children to 70 year-old seniors.

There are Autumn and Spring semesters, each composed of 12 classes.

Beginners Class: Designed for students with little or no experience. It teaches basic fingering and music theory, and uses simple songs to develop interest and build a solid foundation.

Advanced Class: Designed for those who want to learn more advanced songs.

Instructor: Alice Kan (teaching since 1980)
