CCACC’s Guzheng Club

CCACC’s Guzheng Club was formally established by teacher Ms. Alice Kan in September, 2003. For the past nine years, along with the center, the Guzheng Club has developed, grew continuously and provided such a wonderful learning place, where is low-cost and high quality of the instructor in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Each spring and autumn, Ms. Kan begins basic and advanced classes in the center for the diverse level of students, in order to promote guzheng art, and to let the being abroad like us have the opportunity to learn this wonderful, traditional instrument and enjoy it.

Guzheng is a gem of our folk music. Because the honeyed, clear and melodious voice is like the sound of large and small pearls falling into a jade plate, and it’s easy to learn, it has been loved by the children and adult all along. Ms. Kan, had studied over several famous teachers, and has rich experience in teaching. Her self-made teaching materials are from easy to difficult, so that students can master the guzheng playing skills easily, then soon will be able to play a lot of simple and nice music. Some students have already studied a few of consecutive courses in CCACC, and have made great progress in playing guzheng.

Ms. Kan especially focuses on the basics in training students. She believes the reason that Chinese guzheng remains popular even after thousands of years is because the particular pleasing quality of the voice. To play guzheng pleasingly, relies on the performer’s basic skills. In the basic class, Ms. Kan teaches the basic fingering, basic music theory, and simple songs of guzheng in order to develop beginners’ interest and lay a solid foundation on them. For those who had learned guzheng before, welcome to enroll in the advanced class to learn more songs.

In guzheng classes, you will be seeing lovely children, lively elders, and truly like-minded young people intently playing << Birds Worshipping the Phoenix>>, << Waves Sweeping Sands>>etc. of guzheng music, and the strong learning atmosphere, one and other mutual encouragement, like a warm family.
To plant the art of inherited millennium down to this foreign country, we’d like to invite everyone to join us, to let the voice of guzheng rich your life, let it sounds over in Washington, DC area. For more information, please contact Ms. Kan
