CLAPS – Huan Le Chinese School 
(Cultural Language Arts Programs and Services)

To foster the understanding of the Chinese language and culture for non-Chinese speaking families.
Class Description: Class 1, class 2, class 3, class 4, class 5, Adult -Beginner, Adult -Intermediate, and Adult -Advanced classes
Courses are set according to the student's age and language proficiency. There are two semesters each year, each approximately 15 weeks, in Fall and Spring semesters. Classes meet for one and half hours each week on Saturdays from 10 to 11:30 am.

History:
CLAPS was first established to help families that are interested to adopt children from China to understand Chinese language and culture. CLAPS has evolved into a major program to provide Chinese language and culture classes to non-Chinese speaking families in the Metropolitan Washington DC area.

Mission:
To enrich families with educational and cultural programs, and to promote mutual understanding, awareness, and appreciation of Chinese and American cultures and heritages. Over the past ten years, the program has witnessed significant growth.  

Chinese Folk Dance Class:
Students learn the combination of the basic techniques of traditional Chinese folk dance with those of classical ballet, as well as artistic stage performance. The teaching material in particular centers around the spirit of Chinese culture. By studying dances from different parts of China, the students begin to appreciate the vastness of the country and the music and cultural essence of the six ethnic groups: Hans, Manchurians, Mongolians, Moslems, Tibetans, and Miaos.
